High-Accuracy Position-Aware Robot for Agricultural Automation Using Low-Cost IMU-Coupled Triple-Laser-Guided (TLG) System

A novel, low-cost approach to high-accuracy robot localization for agricultural applications using an image-processing triple-laser-guided (TLG) system coupled with inertial measurement unit (IMU) is presented in this paper. The TLG consists of a laser-pointing (LPU) at the base station and laser-target (LTU) mobile robot. robot’s XYZ position heading are determined from positions angles relative field both LPU LTU. roll pitch by IMU sensor fusion complementary filter. IMU-coupled demonstrated on outdoor, $20 \times 21$ m flat various light intensities. overall lateral vertical accuracies 1.68 cm 0.59 cm, respectively. heading, roll, 0.90°, 0.78°, 0.76°, found be comparable commercially available GNSS-INS systems NovAtel Trimble, while total cost only fraction systems.
